FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Middleton, Mass. – (August 2014) – Vrolijk Kerstfeest means Merry Christmas in Flemish, the language of Belgium! For those looking to give and get the very best in Belgian beers, the 2014 holiday beers, box sets and samplers from Global Beer Network are the perfect gift. Global Beer Network, the exclusive U.S. importer for more than 60 Belgian beer labels, has assembled a wide array of holiday beer gift ideas sure to satisfy “beer geeks” everywhere.
“Celebrations are key to Belgian life, and holiday beers are both traditional and delicious,” said Steve Villani, president, Global Beer Network. “People love special holiday beers and samplers, and this year we’ve expanded the collection to satisfy even more tastes!”
Belgian beers are known globally for their distinctive taste, styles and centuries-old brewing traditions. This year’s selection of special occasion beverages includes Kasteel Winter, Barrel Aged Scotch Silly, Petrus 1894, and Gulden Draak Brewmaster’s Reserve.
Kasteel Winter, from Brewery Van Honsebrouck, is a decadent Quad that is chestnut brown in color, with a slightly hoppy flavor and 11 percent alcohol by volume (ABV). With its warming aroma of toffee, chocolate and coffee, this beer is distinctively different from standard Christmas ales. Kasteel Winter is available in 11.2 oz. and 25.4 oz. bottles. Suggested retail price: 25.4 oz. bottle/$13.99.
Cognac Barrel Aged Scotch Silly stands out in the 2014 collection. Each year Brasserie de Silly takes their famous Scotch Silly brand and ages it in different style barrel. The 2014 version is cognac barrel aged, creating a deep, dark-colored Scotch ale that is a perfect blend of caramelized malt and candied sugar from the mother beer. The dry flavor comes from the cognac barrel, explodes with flavor and produces a brew with 11 percent ABV. Suggested retail price: 25.4 oz. bottle/$12.99.
Petrus 1894 is brewed in honor of the 120th anniversary of De Brabandere Brewery. This special anniversary brew is made with 30 percent Barrel Aged Petrus Aged Pale and three distinctive and delicious European hops: Golding from the U.K., Zaaz from the Czech Republic and Tettnanger from Germany. Petrus 1894 is pitched four times and then dry hopped. The resulting flavor is dry and fresh like a sparkling wine or Champagne with an ABV of 8 percent. Suggested retail price: 25.4 oz. bottle/$30.
Gulden Draak Brewmaster’s Reserve is a special brew created by Jef Versele, 7th generation brewmaster and owner of Brewery Van Steenberge. Brewmaster's Reserve is created by aging original Gulden Draak in whiskey barrels. Over time, the aging process allows the beer to take on the flavors of the barrel wood and the liquor that was previously housed in the barrel, resulting in a unique blend of rich flavors and an ABV of 10.5 percent. Suggested retail price: 25.4 oz. bottle/$13.99.
Other 2014 holiday offerings from Global Beer Network include: sampler packs, gift boxes including glasses, and oversized 1.5 liter bottles of select labels.
